Continuing Education Requirements

The following Continuing Education (CE) requirements are provided for brokers, property managers, and salespersons:

Education Update

  • The DC Real Estate Board approved the reduction of continuing education requirements for brokers, property managers, and salespersons.
  • Since September 1, 2001, the Board implemented EasyBank computerized system for reporting continuing education credits.

Renewal Update

  • For brokers and property managers, the licensing cycle runs March 1, on the odd year, to August 31, on the next odd year.
  • For salespersons, the licensing cycle runs September 1, on the odd year, to August 31, on the next odd year.
  • The DC Real Estate Board approves schools and organizations to teach the CE courses once appropriate applications have been submitted. Through limited reciprocity, DC real estate licensees may use most (not all) courses approved by the Maryland Real Estate Board for general electives.
  • All DC core courses have to be approved directly by the DC Real Estate Board. Courses taught in Virginia and other states must have prior DC Real Estate Board approval. To be sure a course is approved by the DC Real Estate Board, ask the education provider, or contact the DC Real Estate Board for a list of the approved schools
  • Licensees are encouraged to take the continuing education coursework throughout the year and not wait until the last minute of the licensing cycle.

Inactive Status

  • A reminder, to have your license officially recognized as inactive, you must pay a $100 fee and return your license to Assessment Systems Inc. (ASI) for proper processing. Your license must be Active (current), in order to be eligible for inactive status. Contact ASI (888-204-6192) for specific instructions on making your license inactive.
