Renewal of the biennial Permit to Practice issued by the District of Columbia takes place on December 31 of even numbered years. Individuals seeking renewal must:
- Complete the Renewal Application provided by DCRA/OPLA;
- Submit evidence of the completion of a minimum of eighty (80) hours of approved continuing professional education (CPE);
- Provide any additional information as required by DCRA/OPLA;
- Pay the appropriate fee, which currently is $60

Renewals for the DC license to practice are due January 1, (every even-numbered year) annually. Applications filed after the due date are subject to a $25 late filing fee. In connection with the renewal, licensees must complete the continuing professional education (CPE) reporting form. Just a reminder, your CPE form is subject to audit by the DC Board of Accountancy.
Therefore, please make sure that you have documentation to support the CPE submitted on your form. Sufficient documentation includes:
- Copy of course outline
- Evidence of attendance at group programs
- Proof of satisfactory completion of college courses
- Proof of satisfactory completion of self study courses
- Outline of subject matter, preparation hours, presentation hours for credits as a discussion leader
The Board will notify you if your CPE form has been selected for audit.
