The DC Education Licensure Commission (Commission) is a decision-making body with an administrative support staff to assist in carrying out the daily duties of the Commission. The Commission is responsible for promulgating rules and regulations on licensing requirements and other issues, establishing fees, deciding disciplinary action against licensees, and setting policy for support staff.
The Education Licensure Commission consists of professionals in the field or public members of the District of Columbia community who have an interest in serving the industry. The mayor of the District of Columbia appoints the seven-member commission based on their abilities, experience, and interest in serving the public. Commission members generally meet on the fourth (4th) Thursday of every month at 4:30 pm in room 7237 at DCRA headquarters at 941 North Capitol Street, NE, Washington, DC. The Commission is, however, in recess during the month of August.
Commission Members perform their appointed duties according to the administrative procedures set by the DC Municipal Regulations (DCMR). There are two professional staff members who assist the Board Members as administrative support. One person handles degree granting schools and the other non-degree granting institutions. They are Marilyn Thornton (Program Specialist) who can be reached on (202) 442-4314 and Richard Harrison on (202) 442-4465.
